Biweekly Update #4

Hello, PNW Key Club!

As the school year comes to an end, I want to take a moment to acknowledge the hard work each and every one of you have put forth this year, not just in the classroom, but in your commitments to service. Between finals, projects, sports, performances, and all the other things life throws at you, I admire your ability to keep finding ways to support your schools and communities and that commitment doesn’t go unnoticed.

This time of the school year can be overwhelming, it has been for me! But it is also a chance to reflect on how far you’ve come. Each hour you give as a volunteer, each fundraiser you complete, each successful meeting you attend and every small act of kindness shown adds up to something bigger than the sum of us all or our actions. Key Club comprises those who choose to care, to lead and to serve. Even when life gets busy.

Our board has continued to work to prepare for an exciting year ahead throughout the Pacific Northwest District. We’ve developed new goals, chosen our committee chairs, created district initiatives, and we are actively looking for ways to help every member feel connected and empowered within our organization. We’re excited for what’s to come, especially for events like Key Club Day North and South, and can’t wait to share more with you over the next few months.

As we move into summer, I encourage you to stay involved in service in any way you can. Service doesn’t stop when school is out, or when your Key Club stops meeting. Whether it’s volunteering at local events, helping community organizations or just being there for someone who needs encouragement. Some of the most meaningful impact happens in everyday moments. Personally, I plan to volunteer alongside my high school’s theater department at Maplewood Gardens Retirement Housing, while also serving with the House of Charity to support elderly and homeless members of the Spokane community.

I look forward to meeting many of you and celebrating all that we have accomplished together this past year for those of you that will be attending the 83rd Key Club International Convention in Dallas, Texas. It will be an unforgettable experience with leadership, friendships and inspiration.

I also encourage you to stay connected with your club and to stay in touch with district affairs as we move into the summer. Look for district opportunities like Key Club Day North and South, divisional council meetings hosted by your lieutenant governor, and summer service projects to continue building and making a difference in your communities. Please also take advantage of the summer season to visit and connect with your sponsoring Kiwanis Club and learn more about the organization that supports Key Club at every level.

Keep leading with compassion Key Club. Serving with purpose and making your communities brighter every day. I’ll see you at ICON!In Love and Service,
LawrenceMcConnell

Committee Chair Appointments

The Pacific Northwest District has 5 functioning committees on the District Board. Those committees are: Membership Growth and Reactivation Committee, District Project Committee, District Convention Committee, Kiwanis Family Relations Committee, and the Pacific Northwest Opportunities Fund Committee. These committees function to support and enhance the membership experience within the Pacific Northwest and are the main way the district board supports the members directly. I am happy to announce the Committee Chairs for the 2026-2027 service year. The chairs are as follows:

The Pacific Northwest Committees operate under a set of directives developed in collaboration with the Executive Team, and I am excited to share the 2026–2027 Committee Directives with you all. You can access them below.

On May 2nd, the committee chairs traveled to Portland to receive training for their roles in the upcoming service year, here is a photo from the training:

Last Chance: United By UNICEF

While Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF already took place back in October, we still have our spring fundraising campaign to look forward to! This year, our spring campaign is United by UNICEF. This will continue supporting Start Strong: Zambia by promoting the initiative and sharing fundraising ideas. The campaign will run throughout the month of may, officially ending on May 31st!

Clubs can get involved by participating in our UNICEF social media challenge, fundraising for Start Strong: Zambia, or raising awareness for the campaign’s mission. For the social media challenge, clubs can post a fundraiser they have done, a cool UNICEF fun fact, or any ideas related to UNICEF. They should also tag three other clubs to nominate them, and tag the I-Board Instagram account @keyclub.iboard to be reposted.

Erika’s Lighthouse Positivity Pledge

May is Mental Health Awareness Month, and Erika’s Lighthouse is determined to ensure that no one is alone in their struggles against mental health. Join fellow Key Clubbers around the world in taking the Positivity Pledge this year to make mental health awareness a fun, powerful movement!

This campaign includes themed weeks emphasizing nutrition, self-care, and mindfulness. Be sure to use #pnwkeyclub when you take the Positivity Pledge.

Available District Leadership Opportunities

We are pleased to report that nearly all divisions are served by Lieutenant Governors. However, we still need your help! Lieutenant Governors are vital to the health of each Key Club division, as they create a critical connection between the club and district levels. Clubs in divisions that are not served by a Lieutenant Governor lack a consistent source of relevant updates, resources, and leadership.

The following divisions do not currently have a 2026-2027 Lieutenant Governor:

  • Division 9
  • Division 20i
  • Division 20m
  • Division 22/24
  • Division 42v
  • Division 45
  • Division 50
  • Division 52
  • Division 74
  • Division 76
  • Division 78
  • Division 80
  • Division 82

If you or anyone you know is from one of these divisions and is interested in serving as a Lieutenant Governor during the 2026-2027 service year, please contact me at governor@pnwkeyclub.org or District Administrator Angela Bruhl at angela@pnwkeyclub.org. Serving on the District Board is an incredible experience that provides opportunities to create change and develop as a leader.
